Using Simulated Preview

Use our Simulated Preview feature to view and navigate Flows, even before you add the Install Code to your website.

Simulated Preview lets you see how your Flows will appear and behave on a website - without needing to add and verify the the Install Code first. You don't need to set anything else up to benefit from using this feature.

This is a great way to check how your Flows work across multiple pages if you have not yet been able to add the Install Code to your own website yet.

You can always use the standard Preview feature instead if you only need to check a single Flow and if the install code has already been added to your website.

What is Simulated Preview?

Simulated Preview loads your Flows on a generic "simulated" webpage, so you can interact with them exactly as your visitors would. It allows you to explore how your Flows connect across pages, even if you’re not ready to add it to your website. It's useful if:

  • You haven't added the embed code to your site yet
  • You want to explore how your Flows behave before going live or publishing
  • You want to understand how Flows will lead from one page to the next
  • You want to share a preview with a colleague or stakeholder (they will need to be logged-in to ReelFlow)

The URL in the toolbar updates as you interact with your Flows - you can browse between pages within your Workspace as though you were on your real site.

What you'll see

  • Generic page backgrounds (not your real website)
  • Your Flows loaded exactly as they would appear to visitors
  • The current Activation URL Page displayed near the top - this updates as you interact with buttons (e.g. navigating to a new page, scrolling, closing the player)

How to access it

From the Flow Builder:

  1. Open the Flow Builder for any Flow
  2. Click the Preview button
  3. Select the Simulated Preview option, it will open in a new window
  4. Navigate between the pages of the simulated website as normal, using buttons on the Flows

Things to be aware of

  • Start a Chat action buttons won’t work – these will only work on a real website.
  • Custom scripts won't run — any custom Player API scripts you've added will not be available in this mode.
  • No performance metrics are collected — this is a preview mode, so no analytics data is recorded.
  • You must be logged in — access requires an active login to your ReelFlow account.
