Generating videos with AI Video Stand-ins

Video Stand-ins let you generate highly realistic talking-head video content based on a human image by providing a script or real recorded spoken audio, and created using our powerful AI tools. 

What are Video Stand-ins?

Generate brand new video footage of you speaking to camera using the magic of AI.

Our Video Stand-ins provide a fast and secure way to create great-looking video content based on a small amount of pre-existing video footage of you or a colleague.

Using this feature, you can create endless new video content. This new technique is immensely powerful, turbo-charging the ease and speed of creating and publishing video.

You can choose to begin with a written script or just upload an audio recording of yourself, and in a matter of seconds you can generate and publish your new video directly into ReelFlow on your website.

The individual who is the subject of a Video Stand-in will need to provide a training video and express consent before they can use this feature. We assist you with this process, and details follow below.

How to record your Video Stand-in Training Video

How to create a high quality training video to enable ReelFlow’s AI Video Stand-In functionality:

  1. Setting up to record your Stand-in Training Video

    • Environment:

      • Record in a quiet, well-lit space with minimal background noise or movement.
      • Use diffused lighting to avoid shadows.
      • Choose a simple, static background - no moving objects or people. 

    • Camera Setup

      • Position the camera at eye-level
      • Record in landscape format (16:9 ratio)
      • Record in at least 1080p, but ideally 4K at 30 fps (frames per second)
      • Resolution: 720p, 1080p would work well
      • HDR must be turned off if recording with a smartphone
      • Ensure your face occupies at least 25% of the frame, use the guide below
      • Use a modern smartphone or desktop app (e.g., QuickTime on Mac or Windows Camera), avoid browser-based recording tools.

    • Microphone

      • Use your device’s built-in microphone, don’t use high-end or wireless options like AirPods.
      • Disable audio enhancements like noise suppression or EQ.

    • Yourself

      • Keep your full head visible and sharply in focus.
      • Avoid clothing that blends into the background, bulky glasses, hats, or distracting accessories.
      • Sit upright in a stable position; don’t shift or stand during the video.
      • If using a phone, maintain consistent framing/distance.
      • Tuck back hair and don’t obstruct your mouth/chin.  

  2. Begin Recording

    You will start to  read a script, around 1 minute in length. An example is provided below, if you wish to use that.
       
    General advice on delivery:

    • Shoot the video in one continuous take:
    • Speak naturally and clearly
    • Maintain a steady pace, pausing for a moment between sentences
    • Talk naturally and remember to smile! Feel free to use varied facial expressions and natural hand gestures.
    Here is an example script that you can read that is approximately 1 minute long - you don't have to use this, but it can assist with ensuring you feel relaxed in your delivery, which will be represented in the final result:

3. Send your Stand-in Training Video to us

  • Please share your video file (.webm, .mov or .mp4) with your ReelFlow customer success manager.
  • For larger files, we recommend you upload the file to a service like Google Drive, Dropbox, WeTransfer or OneDrive and generate a sharing link.
  • AI Video Stand-In trainings typically take 24-48 hours from receipt of your training video and will also require a short, live consent statement to create. Your ReelFlow contact will provide further instructions.

How we ensure secure & appropriate use of AI Video Stand-ins

  • A Video Stand-in is associated with a single user, and we enforce certain security controls on these user accounts, including a requirement to turn-on Two-Step Verification:
  • By default, only the person the Stand-in is trained upon can generate video content using it. They can however choose to grant access to other users in their Organization.
  • We have rigorous processes and requirements for establishing consent for creating Video Stand-ins and handling the associated training media and content.
  • We communicate to visitors viewing generated video content in the ReelFlow Player that they are viewing AI-produced content.

Will visitors know they are watching AI generated video in the Player?

We display a small Content Label on all Video Stand-in produced content in the ReelFlow Player, so viewers can understand more about how AI was used in the video production.

Generating videos using your Video Stand-in

You must you have completed the following steps in order to generate video Stand-in content:

  2. Recorded and submitted training and consent materials to setup your Video Stand-in - see how to record your Stand-in training video

  3. Generate Video Stand-in content

Step-by-step how to generate videos using Video Stand-ins

  1. Navigate to the ReelFlow Dashboard
  2. Choose the Create button or visit ↗️ Video Stand-ins from the sidebar
  3. You will be asked to confirm your identity using a Two-Step Verification code.
  4. Choose to create from Script or an upload an recording of of you talking as a audio file
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to generate the video. Videos can take a few moments to generate, and progress can be observed in the Video Stand-ins page.
  6. All generated videos will be available to save to your Library for 14 days, at which point you can add them to your Flows. Videos you don't save to your Library will be automatically discarded at this point. Generated videos will be saved to the Library of your current Workspace.

Tips for getting great Stand-in audio generation results

  • When generating audio for stand-ins, you’ll notice the result varies every time even if you use an identical written script each time. If you don’t like a particular audio result before you generate your video, try and generate additional variants using the links provided. Generating two or three audio variations is usually enough to reach a good result.
  • Sometimes the audio generation feature will struggle to pronounce words or abbreviations. Try to spell them phonetically. For example B2B might be better represented as Bee-two-Bee.
  • Use punctuation marks to create gaps in the script. Paragraphs, spaces, dashes and colons all can be used to break up the generated audio result.
  • Some accents can be difficult for even the best audio models to reproduce. We have a range of model options available to choose from, and it's usually trial and error to pick the best one for a particular voice. If you're having trouble getting a good result, reach out to our team.
